Coopers Alive
Tomorrow night we're playing at the Ed Castle for the Coopers Alive festival. We're very excited to be playing with Steering By Stars and Hawks Of Alba! It starts at 10pm and the visuals that are planned will hopefully help to make the night even better!
Our set is going to feature our newest tracks, including one that we have never played to an audience!

Crank the Wireless
Tomorrow night around 11 we'll be doing a short set for Radio Adelaide's Live Music Week for Walter and Seb's Midnight Static. It should be cool, so set your radio to 101.5, and if it's on too late set your cassette player to record. You can also stream it via the internet here

News 'n' Reviews
Yep. This page has been quiet a bit too long. Ok, so first up we got some outings in the city over the next few months:
Tomorrow night (fri 3rd) we're supporting No Through Road for their last show (for a while) at the Jade Monkey, along with Sarah Chadwick from Batrider. Doors open 9ish and for the first time ever we'll be selling our EP's at a show IN THE CITY! Amazing! It only took, what, a month or two?
Fri 10th (ie, next week) we're DJing at the Metro front bar. We'll be there from 8.30ish till late spinning generally pretentious nonsense with the odd kanye or rhiannon track thrown in by an increasingly drunk band member... who will it be!?!
The following Friday (again!), the 17th, we're finally doing a bit of a launch for the aforementioned EP, once again at the Metro with friends Sincerely, Grizzly and Weightless. We're planning a 'once-off' kinda setlist, so it'll be a special night, and FREE ENTRY! Starts at 9ish.
Following that, we're playing a set for Coopers Alive at the Ed Castle with Steering By Stars and Hawks of Alba. More details soon, but it's gonna be another pretty amazing night.
Can't wait it out? Check out the EP review in dB Magazine here, and also keep an eye out for the latest Messenger Newspaper which features an interview and stuff. We also got a mention a few issues back in On Dit, green covered one, scrapbook section, below the Best Coast review...
In other news, we've been recording and writing more tracks and slowly figuring out what to do with it all. And we'll also be playing a live radio session for the Radio Adelaide Live Music Month, hosted by Walter and Seb from Midnight Static. More info soon...
Hope you're well,
Pat (Box Elder)

an alternative...
Or if you can't make it to the websites mentioned below, do what I've just done and listen to this band's debut. these guys are from sydney and have been getting a good wrap from some nice places.
It's a really great album and they are playing with some friends of ours at the Ed Castle on 5th of June.

Gigs, gigs, gigs...
Busy few weeks ahead... We're supporting Barn at the Jade Monkey 9pm tonight, followed by a show 9pm at the Metro this Saturday (24th) with Cheer Advisory Council and We Grow Up. Then next week we're supporting Red Apparition for their single launch 9pm at the Jade Monkey (30th). Finally, we're playing Friday 7th May at Rhino Room with Todd Sibbins and the Opposite Ends, and the Scarlet Ives. Show starts at 10pm, Ben Revi is DJing between sets, and it will be an awesome show.
Also, the EP is finally fully mixed/mastered. But you won't get to hear much more than the previews for a while until packaging and the like have been sorted out. 5 tracks of various noisiness, running to a total of just over 20mins.
In the mean time if you're looking for ways to support your favourite adelaide post-punk 5-piece (and i know you are!), head over to triple j unearted and review/download/troll/whatever you do the tracks there. Who knows, maybe another one will appear there soon? Also, check out our last.fm page. If you have an account (highly recommended) you'll be able to help us out. As you may be aware, there's a US band called "box elders" (note that the 's' makes a HUGE difference!) Some slackers in the US have misnamed their iTunes and the wrong songs keep appearing on our site. Worse still, our plays count for them. If you head to our page and at the top where it's "flagged" vote for the correct spelling of our band name this will help correct their laziness so that both bands can coexist... on different continents...
Thanks, Pat (Box Elder)

the crying light
i've always found this album cover really attractive and very intriguing. but i've never managed to understand the music in it.
it must be this amazing autumn weather because all of a sudden it just seems to be the perfect soundtrack to the moment.

this saturday is the third show in as many weeks, and it's going to be HUGE! despite a small hiccup with the format festival programs, we're playing first on a lineup with FRIENDS, Jimmy and the Mirrors, and The Crying Game. get along about 9ish to check out the venue, it's rad.
thanks to Tantivy Fair, Two Suns and Sincerely, Grizzly for playing with us, and also to everyone who made it down.

Get the first track off our upcoming EP here, free until further notice. It's called 'Vega'
There is also an instrumental version of 'Microdots' from an early mix of the recording that you can get here. It was mixed for use in a Fringe show called Enroute, which is a on-foot exploration of the city (details on Melbourne run here)
The EP is unnamed and still being finalized, but currently looks like 4 tracks. Recorded and mixed by us in our homes with assistance by Ashley Lovett recording drums. Will be available physically with a limited digital preview.
Keep watching this space for details on an EP launch soon...
Catch you at the metro feb 20th, no excuses!

Merge, February.
Box Elder features in this month's Merge Magazine. Thanks to Merge and Rory from Steering by Stars. Both are doing a lot for Adelaide.
Like most in this city, we've got a busy month coming up with gigs at the Metro, Exeter and Format Festival (which will be amazing, you should definitely get along to that). Come along and say hi.

Some are summer...
Recording underway (again!), but this time there is a light at the end of the heavily reverbed tunnel. 8 speculative tracks worth...
New songs are on the go too, and surprisingly some are quite summery (!) Thinking we should cite are biggest influence as the weather...
More shows added to the side bar, hopefully we can catch some of you there, otherwise keep an eye out for the next issue of Merge Magazine featuring an interview with Rory from Steering By Stars.
Stay safe on the streets after dark,
Pat
